:zebraquest-heart1: Purpose
A bit of background: I’d previously posted a poll on my IG stories in 2025 to find out if people celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri in Brunei 🇧🇳 felt their Raya was “busy”.
In 2026, I extended it to a specific question:
To find out the number of homes people visited in a day.
It always interests me that Hari Raya traditions can change from household to household, which can in turn change over time as households go through various life changes: births 👶, deaths 😢, but also evolving health conditions, moving house, family circumstances, etc.
:zebraquest-heart1: Main Preliminary findings
Ok I’m still looking at the data and these don’t say much yet.

Notes:
1️⃣ Formula: (# Week B - #Week A) / # Week A * 100%
</aside>
- The weekly % change (of average daily votes) is more moderate for 1-3 houses (13% then 29% decrease). I theorise this shows that until mid-Syawal (specifically 14-17th Syawal), people are still happy to visit 1-3 houses in a day.
- On that note, people don’t Raya too hard after the 1st week, as the visits to 4-7 houses in a day drops sharply (73% then 70% decrease) and similarly for 8+ houses (40% then 100% decrease) once entering the 2nd week of Syawal.
- From Wednesday 25th March to Friday 27th March, many of those in the working population had likely returned to work. So the opportunities to do Raya house visits had decreased by the time Syawal entered Week 2 on Saturday 28th March. This is reflected by % of Non-Zero Visits dropping from 63% to 29% from Tues 24th March to Wed 25th March.
- Alternative theory 1: At the end of the month, people’s payday salaries were spent cross-border instead (if within Borneo: Miri, Kota Kinabalu, or other various places in Sarawak and Sabah) whether for Hari Raya visits or for leisure/shopping. [Check against people visiting 0/not in Brunei] [To add: References to stories about cross-border queues on that weekend!]
- Alternative theory 2: Families preparing their children to return to school on 30th March onwards also opted not to do too many Raya visits. Orrr they went cross-border. Two different attitudes.
